34th GLAAD

MEDIA AWARDS

The GLAAD Media Awards is an annual, two-night event that celebrates the LGBTQ community in the media. It is held in Los Angeles and New York City, and the full broadcast can be watched on Hulu.

I led the creative direction for the 34th event to develop the intro film, and on-stage and on-screen graphics package used during the two live shows, in the show broadcast, and across social media.

A consistent element of the annual event has been the GMA statuette, which we used in all of the big show moments and across the brand’s social media for event promotion.

“Maybe it’s recency bias, but I do think this year’s show was an amazing moment. It was set up so that the centre stage acted like a magnet pulling in all the imagery to a singular point. The effect was that, no matter where you were sitting in the room, you were looking at exactly the right spot to get the most out of the event”.

THE INTRO FILM

VISUAL DEVELOPMENT

The goal was to captivate the live show audience and ensure that everything translated effectively for the broadcast viewers at home.

The live stage required us to plan for an ultra-wide ratio. To support the statuette as the central element, we designed bioluminescent lines emerging from the side screens to meet on the main screen to form the trophy from the ground up.
